palatniks, an obsession

It all started with a standing cat Palatnik I picked up at Goodwill for $5. Now I can't get enough of these little guys! They are very distinct in design using lines and dots. They range in size from 2 to 12 inches. Sometimes you will find them with or without the ©Pal signature inside the piece. They should have a paper sticker underneath that says "Made in Brazil" unless it was removed. Abraham Palatnik (born 1928) is a Brazilian artist and inventor of kinechromatic art.

Once again we'll be selling at the San Diego Vintage Flea Market on March 1, 2015! This time we're coming bigger and better with our display and vintage wares. Spring is in the air and there will be an emphasis on pretty things and Easter! Some of the vintage items we'll be bringing: milk glass, toys, paper ephemera, knick knacks, buttons, books, art, jewelry and MCM. And this time we will be accepting credit cards with our new PayPal Here card reader! Come by and say hi! :)

It was a great day at the swap meet! I was on a mission for vintage tins and found a couple. The best pick of the day was the lot of vintage Chemex and filters. I also found a few Pyrex bowls (Butterfly Gold and Autumn Harvest) I didn't have yet. All you see in this photo I paid only $23.50 for. What a steal! :)

Here's a sweet little vintage lamb I picked up at a local estate sale. Missing tags, she has been a bit of a mystery to me until I recently found one on Etsy with a tag. Now I know her name is Lucy Lamb #1074 in the "Dream Pets" line made by R. Dakin Company importers, San Francisco, California. Made in Japan in the 1960s. She melts my heart! ♥

Found these beauts at a local thrift shop earlier this week! A complete set of vintage 1979 Childcraft: The How and Why Library books, volumes 1-15 plus the 1981 annual The Bug Book. They are currently available in my vintagesugar Etsy shop! I had a set of these when I was a child and they were my favorite books! I have no idea what happened to my set... wish I knew. Luckily my husband still has his set from when he was a child to pass onto our kids. Did every kid growing up in the 80s have these along with the World Book encyclopedias? ;)

I was super lucky to find these SX-70 OneStep Polaroid Land Cameras at a local thrift for $5 each! I never thought I'd find these in the wild. I guess my daily thrift trips have been paying off! Now all I need is film... :)

We survived yet another holiday season! And so did these lovelies (in my shops that is). If our house wasn't already filled to the brim and hoarding was socially acceptable I'd keep them all to myself! Won't you consider giving these charming pieces a good home? Christmas will be back before we know it! ;)

It was good week for vintage Pyrex! Found an almost complete set of red to orange bowls at Goodwill. Also found bowls orange New Dots 401, pink Gooseberry 441 and Woodland 403. Yippee! :)

I love kawaii food characters, and these deliciously adorable bears made by the Japanese company Gladee fit the bill. Donut, chocolate, biscuit and pancake bears... the perfect diet companions, snuggle in lieu of a midnight snack! ♥

I found these cute, little knee huggers last year in a box of miscellany I only paid $1 for at a swap meet! I've since sold them on eBay, but I love this picture of them. I'm always on the hunt for vintage Christmas ornaments and decorations! :)
